Friday Harbor Poetry Gardens

Excited for my poem “Prehistoric Now” to be chosen and included in the Friday Harbor Poetry Gardens. There are four gardens around town featuring 20 poets from the San Juan Islands. I am honored to be among them. My poem is at the San Juan Community Theatre garden. They also published a beautiful free book of the poems that can be picked up at FH Town Hall or click here to find out how to get your copy. On that website you’ll also find a list of the 20 poets featured, and a map of the Poetry Garden locations. Thank you to the Town of Friday Harbor, The FH Arts Commission, former WA State Poet Laureate Claudia Castro Luna and all who made this wonderful project happen. The poems will be on view until spring of 2026.

-Here’s my artist statement for the double strand necklace I created for this year’s show, I call it “Rumi’s Heart”.

With this piece, I wanted to use the sumptuous large Edison pearls I’ve been harboring for a while. I played with different combinations and found the perfect match with the deep red jade stones. Framed by a luminous strand of pearls hand-knotted on burgundy silk, I suddenly felt transported to Persia and ultimately, Rumi’s heart.
